Serena Williams is one of the most successful athletes turned entrepreneurs among a current lot of tennis players. Since the start of her venture capital firm ‘Serena Ventures’ in 2014, the 40-year-old has been helping young startups in becoming major companies. As per Forbes, to date, Serena has invested in a total of 66 startups through Serena Ventures.

Going through the portfolio of Serena Ventures, it can be seen that the firm has given out a large portion of its total investment to tech-savvy startups. One such startup is Lolli. Starting in 2018, Lolli is a rewards application/website, that lets users earn bitcoin every time they shop from the company’s partner stores.

Recently, while speaking at a talk session on cryptocurrency, Serena mentioned how investing in Lolli has been beneficial for her. In the talk session, Serena was also accompanied by NFL quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

Serena Williams on investing in Lolli and Cryptocurrency

Cryptocurrency is one of the most upcoming markets in the entire world. With a number of cryptocurrency firms coming up in recent times, the digital currency market is booming like no other. Being an investor in a number of crypto-related firms herself, Serena is not a stranger to the crypto world. Apart from Serena, her husband Alexis Ohanian is also a major investor in cryptocurrency firms through his firm ‘Seven Seven Six.’ In March last year, the couple came together with their firms to invest in Lolli.

Talking about Lolli, she said, “We invested in Lolli. Where you can have an opportunity to invest through Bitcoin, through purchases and rewards. So that’s been a really good portfolio company for us.”

Going further, she also spoke about bitcoin and cryptocurrency. She said, “It’s a lot happening in the cryptocurrency world. Obviously, I think, it’s all being led by Bitcoin.” 

Alexis captioned the story, “Lolli (Seven Seven Six) getting a Serena Ventures shout-out.”

The potential return of Williams to court

Serena Williams last played a tennis match in June last year. Eyeing her 8th title, Serena entered the 2021 Wimbledon as the 6th seed. Opening her campaign, Serena played Aliaksandra Sasnovich in the first-round match. At 3-3 in the first set, Serena suffered an injury to her hamstring. The injury forced the champion to not only withdraw from the Wimbledon but also from the remainder of the season.

However, recently, Serena gave a reason for the tennis fans to rejoice. A few days back, she uploaded a video on TikTok. The video was titled ‘On my way to Wimbledon’. Taking the video into consideration, the tennis community around the world is hopeful of Serena’s comeback at this year’s Wimbledon. However, there hasn’t been any official statement by Serena or Wimbledon yet.
