Fourth-seeded in the WTA Charleston Open, Russian tennis star Daria Kasatkina became the first finalist of the tournament. Beating top-seeded Jessica Pegula in a tough three-setter that saw her turning the tables on the American, Kasatkina dished out a memorable upset for the American fans. For the 26-year-old, it’s all part of the ‘tennis drama.’

Beaming with joy after her win, the Russian comically revealed the scripted nature of the matches being played out this season on the WTA tour. It was a hilarious comparison to the men’s counterpart tour, which has faced scrutiny for not bringing in new winners and fresh entertainment.

Talking to the Tennis Channel, the Russian comically refers to the parody video clip released by ATP in February, and sarcastically admits that all the tennis matches are staged, “So, I call it a tennis Drama. It has to be like this, as they did, this thing that the ATP they did, this thing that the ATP tour is actually scripted. Yes. Sorry guys, but it’s all scripted again.”

The Russian, who has made it to her third WTA this season, sarcastically explains the ‘pattern’ she has observed when she states that the WTA rigs the games. She points out that the WTA levels the playing field by making you lose the some they made you win, referring to Pegula’s quarter-final win.

“Oh, it’s not you know in tennis I feel like sometimes it’s this thing just works. If you one day, if you won the match from match points the next day, you’re going to lose from match points. So, seeing what happened to Jessica yesterday, it’s always happened. Like I see the pattern,” says Kasatkina jokingly.

Perhaps, the Russian is also happy to secure one win against Pegula who was leading in their head-to-head, winning both matches in straight sets. The tennis gods will be writing the script, and the next match could go either way. But what is this video from the ATP that left Kasatkina and the audiences in splits?!

The ATP released the video earlier this year and showcased tennis stars like never before. In a clever twist, prominent figures in men’s professional tennis are now gracing the screen in the newest “mockumentary” parody series titled ‘The Tour: A Reality Show.’ Top ATP Tour contenders like Novak Djokovic can be seen stepping into the role of ‘Bert Critchley’ and Andy Murray as ‘Fraser McKnight.’

Drawing inspiration from iconic shows like The Office and The Truman Show, this scripted mockumentary offers a hilarious glimpse into professional tennis. In addition to the video series, the ATP has also crafted social media personas for each player involved in the production.
