Following sister Serena Williams’ comeback in the Wimbledon Championships, her elder sister Venus Williams also made her long-awaited singles comeback yesterday. Playing in the first round of the Citi Open, she went down in a three-set match against Rebecca Marino of Canada. Venus started well by winning the first set 6-4. However, the Canadian veteran made a strong comeback to take the next two sets, 6-1, 6-4.

Although it was not the result that her family was hoping for, the elder Williams sister had her family rooting for her. Alexis Ohanian tweeted in support of Venus. He also confirmed that Olympia was there watching her aunt’s comeback match.

When Alexis Ohanian took to his Twitter account to post in support of Venus, a fan asked if Olympia was watching her aunt’s match. Replying to the query, the Reddit co-founder confirmed she was watching.

“She was but it’s bedtime!” he wrote.

Although it ended up in disappointment, it certainly would have delighted the fans to see Venus back on the court. As it was just the beginning of the American swing, she will feature in the Canadian Open and Cincinnati Masters tournament next.

Venus vows to come back stronger

After a disappointing loss in her comeback match, Venus accepted that she was a bit rusty. Further, she explained how she was in a good position in the third set as well, but a bit of rustiness cost her the match.

“Just a little rusty. I really put myself in good positions in the third set, too. Just trying to shake off some rust,” she said.

Also, she accepted that it was natural as she returned after a long time. Further, the 42-year-old assured that she will play better in the coming tournaments.
