Gone are the days when children automatically followed in their parent’s footsteps. Today’s generation has the freedom to carve out their paths, exploring a wide range of career opportunities. Spanish tennis star Paula Badosa is no exception. Unlike many top athletes who hail from sporting families, Badosa comes from a background rooted in the fashion industry. And now, it seems she’s looking to carry on her family’s legacy in her own way. After her Australian Open exploits, Badosa was involved in the Tennis Insider Club podcast where she gave a glimpse into her career and the challenges faced.

During a conversation there, Badosa was asked if she would want her children to pursue tennis. Replying to the question, Badosa revealed, “That’s a tricky one because I have a sister and she is a little bit like a daughter also, and sometimes I’m like, go study. Sometimes, it’s like, I want them to play sports, that’s for sure because I think it gives you vision and values in life but then I also think, the tennis life and sports life, it’s so tough. But I’m the kind of person who wants them to decide whatever they want and if they want to play tennis, the good thing is that I played also. So I would try to help.”

Badosa also has a tennis-playing sister, Jana, who is almost 10 years younger than her. However, she is more of a mother to her than a sister due to their age gap. Additionally, the Spanish star has also talked about the challenges one faces in becoming a professional tennis player, both talent-wise as well as the financial aspect of the game. Thus, Badosa wants to leave the choice of career to her children.

Nonetheless, Badosa has inspired her close ones with the massive rise in her career. Even her boyfriend, Stefanos Tsitsipas was inspired by her Australian Open run. Let’s see what he had to say!

Stefanos Tsitsipas talks about Paula Badosa’s Australian Open outing

While Badosa reached the Australian Open semifinals, Tsitsipas had a poor run and bowed out of the Grand Slam Down Under in the first round. He suffered a shock defeat against Alex Michelsen of the United States. Tsitsipas is looking to overcome his poor form and take inspiration from his girlfriend.

The Greek star said, “Her success gives me a lot of motivation. It was really impressive and deserved. With her run I thought, ‘If she can do it, why can’t I?’ That’s how I look at it. I learned a lot from this process of how to get to a Grand Slam semi-final. I felt privileged that I could give her some small advice to help her en route to the semi-finals. She gave me the freedom to give some feedback and tips.”

Tsitsipas will hope to make a strong comeback in the ongoing ATP Rotterdam. He is into the round of 16 after a comfortable win over Harold Mayot of France. It’ll be interesting to see if Tsitsipas can win the title in Rotterdam. Meanwhile, what do you think about Badosa’s mindset regarding the prospect of children carving their own path?
