Jessica Pegula and Coco Gauff looked for redemption as they stepped into the 2023 WTA Finals. The American duo also played in the 2022 Finals but couldn’t win even one match in singles or doubles. But they turned that around in the first bout of this year’s Finals. Not only did they redeem themselves from disappointment last year, but they have also equaled some records created by Serena Williams and Venus Williams.
The current record is the second Pegula equaled with one of the Williams sisters. She managed to rise up to the challenge and defeat Aryna Sabalenka in round two, which helped her match the younger Williams sister on one front.

But Pegula’s victory was not her only major accomplishment. With her victory against Sabalenka at the WTA Finals, the 29-year-old became the first American woman since Serena Williams in 2012 to have three wins over a world number one in the same year.
