Danielle Collins has won her second successive title this year at the Silicon Valley Open in San Jose. The American overcame a tough challenge from Daria Kasatkina in the finals and had to fight hard for the win. A second title in 2021 bodes well for her as she prepares for the upcoming US Open tournament.

Danielle Collins dreamed of winning a tournament this year

Collins’ prayers were heard this time and she won two consecutive titles in August and July. Before the Silicon Valley Open, she won the Palermo Open in Palermo, Italy. She defeated Elena-Gabriela Ruse in the final at Palermo in July.

It was one of my goals to win a tournament this year, and to now win two, it’s just been incredible. It’s still kind of hard to comprehend that I’ve won two back-to-back,” said Collins as reported by WTA Staff.

A strong performance from Collins ensured her second title of 2021. She survived a scare in the second round, after losing 7-6; however, a decimating performance in the third set ensured a 6-1 win for her.

Collins reflects upon her performance today against Daria

Collins did not enjoy any form of success against Daria in their last two meetings. She was determined to overcome the past performances and win the final to register her second title. The World No. 36 has jumped to No.28 after her title win in San Jose.

I think today I executed my game plan well. t’s tough when you go out against an opponent who runs down so many balls, anticipates so well, because a lot of times you’re having to win the point six, seven, eight times. Where certain shots would be winners against other players, they’re not going to be against Dasha because of how great of a mover and anticipator she is,” said Collins.

Collins will now aim for a strong performance at the National Bank Open in Montreal, starting tomorrow. She will require a strong finish in order to improve her chances at the US Open later this month.
