“2025 will be important for just the longevity of my career. I don’t know how much longer I’m going to play, so just making sure that I enjoy it and have a good time,” WTA pro Sloane Stephens said last year while hoping to shine on the court once again. Unfortunately, the 2017 US Open champion has struggled of late, and, thanks to a foot injury, she has had to sit out events since February. But you know what? Sometimes, time off the court is a blessing in disguise. Especially if you are a parent. For the 32-year-old American tennis star, the unwanted tennis break has turned into a boon when it comes to spending quality time with her stepson.
Back in 2022, Stephens tied the knot with the former striker of the US men’s national soccer team, Jozy Altidore. Since then, she’s been part of his family, including his son Cameron, from his previous wife. In the last three years, Sloane’s witnessed his childhood taking flight as he’s growing fast. Children always do, don’t they? Blink of an eye. And Stephens’ latest update on social media has echoed a similar sentiment.
On Tuesday, Stephens shared a string of IG stories from their family trip to a special place. Guess what? She and husband, Altidore eventually went to the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County, alongside Cameron. “@jozyaltidore & I are the parent chaperones on Cameron’s class field trip”, she wrote in the first story while sharing a photo of her and Altidore.

In another picture, she showed little boy Cameron himself, while being surprised at how fast he’s grown lately. She simply couldn’t believe it! “It feels like just yesterday he was my baby… now he’s Big Cam! Everything about him makes me so proud ❤️”
Stephens lovingly calls Cameron her “little angel.” And it’s not the first time this season she’s spent precious moments with him. Last month, they were also spotted enjoying an NWSL match between Angel City Football Club (ACFC) and NJ/NY Gotham FC. Sharing a picture of her stepson from the match, she wrote, “Friday nights w/Cameron 🥰.” In another update, she dropped a picture of herself while saying, “📸: Cameron.”
Her bond with Cameron goes even deeper. Last year, she was seen celebrating National Sons’ Day with him. In an interview with Cosmopolitan from last June, she threw light on the loving connection with her stepson. “Yes, our son (Cameron) is nine and he’s great and makes me want to have more kids.”
Undoubtedly, 2025 is going well for her as a mother, getting to spend adorable moments alongside Cameron. But what about her tennis comeback? Is it going to happen soon?

Sloane Stephens’ return halted by untimely injury
Sloane Stephens‘ ongoing season has been underwhelming to say the least. At the beginning of the year, she tried to attain a solid form at the Hobart International. Sadly, she faced an early exit in R32 against compatriot Ann Li. Then, down under, World No.1 and three-time slam queen Aryna Sabalenka ousted her in the first round itself.
In her next campaign at the Merida Open, Stephens failed once again to make a deep run. Croatia’s Petra Martić edged her out in R32. And if her struggles with the form weren’t enough, she ended up sustaining a major injury. In early March, she injured her right ankle. As a result, she had to withdraw from the next event in Indian Wells.

Sharing the unfortunate update through an Instagram post, she wrote, “Got a little boo boo on my foot again 💔 Setbacks are never easy—physically or emotionally—but I trust the universe to guide me in the right direction. Still waking up grateful every day 🙏🏾 I’ll do my best to get back on court soon! Thank you for all the love and encouragement, love you the most ❤️”
It’s been nearly two months since she first revealed details on her injury. She’s yet to share an official update on a possible comeback. Since June 2024, she’s not won any singles encounter while being on a 10-match losing streak. And with the physical limitations, the challenges have only aggravated for her.
