Serena Williams never fails to disappoint, does she? In her first-round match at the 2022 US Open, the American legend had a dominating win over Danka Kovinic of Montenegro. Further, in a match lasting one hour and 40 minutes, Serena came out on top in straight sets to bring joy to the home crowd.

It is the 23-time Grand Slam champion’s final tournament of her professional career. As Serena emerged victorious, social media went crazy and had special words for the younger Williams sister.

Twitter erupts as Serena Williams wins her first-round match at the 2022 US Open

The likes of LeBron James, Ons Jabeur, and others took to Twitter to express their happiness about Serena’s winning start at the tournament. NBA legend, LeBron James said, “Keep that serve going.” Additionally, he also posted a ‘GOAT’ emoji along with his message.

Further, American track and field athlete Allyson Felix said, “Yesss! We love to see it.” She also thanked Serena for putting on a great show in front of her home crowd.

Fellow player, Ons Jabeur reacted by saying, “Queen” along with a red heart emoji. Jabeur had partnered with Serena in the latter’s comeback tournament at the Eastbourne International.

Serena had adorned a special outfit to mark the last tournament of her professional career. Further, she designed her outfit, taking inspiration from her previous six title-winning campaigns at the tournament.

After a dominant display against Danka Kovinic, the American legend will face a stern test in the second round of the tournament. She will take on the second seed, Anett Kontaveit of Estonia, in the second round.

Kontaveit had earlier defeated Jaqueline Adina Cristian to set up a clash with Serena. Further, it will be the first meeting between Serena and Kontaveit.
