‘Keep Your Negative Comments to Yourself’ – Amanda Anisimova Slams Haters After Unexpected Indian Wells 2022 Withdrawal

Amanda Anisimova, who made a solid start to the 2022 WTA season. She was looking forward to make further progress and gain ranking points this season in order to witness past glory. Rightfully, the American star bagged the Gippsland Trophy in Australia. And went on to defeat Naomi Osaka in the third-round of the ‘happy slam’.

Currently playing the BNP Paribas Open in California, Amanda faced stiff competition in the second-round match against Canadian sensation Leylah Fernandez. Anisimova took the first set comfortably but Leylah fought hard in the second. Things got a bit difficult for Anisimova in the second set tie-breaker; she lost seven points in a row and conceded the set to Fernandez.

Citing illness, the American player gave a walkover to Fernandez and there were mixed reactions to this move from Anisimova. Now, the American offered an explanation as to what went wrong last night.

Hi everyone, unfortunately I’ve been quite sick the last few days and yesterday I woke up feeling very ill. I wanted to try and push through it in the match and continue playing the tournament. I couldn’t go on with the match anymore because I felt like I was putting my health at risk at that point.”

Anisimova was clearly disappointed for the way it all ended for her at Indian Wells. While it’s unclear what the exact illness she was referring to; it’s evident that the American wasn’t entirely comfortable with herself on-court last night.

In the end, Anisimova also wrote a message to those who criticized her for the walkover.

I’ll look forward to getting back on court soon. And please keep your negative comments to yourself,” concluded the American.

It was a difficult week for Amanda as trial coach Darren Cahill decided to part ways with her citing personal reasons and his dislike of living in bio bubbles constantly. While Anisimova is yet to provide a response to Cahill’s exit. It might have had an impact on her considering the success Cahill had with Simona Halep over the years.

After making a solid return to the WTA tour, this is a minor setback for Amanda Anisimova as she looks to get back on-court as soon as possible.
