‘Kind People Helped My Father’ – Belinda Bencic Pleads for Support to Help the Ukrainians

The first name that comes to mind when talking about Swiss tennis is Roger Federer. However, Belinda Bencic has established her name as the top active Swiss player in women’s tennis. She announced her name in the tennis world when she won back-to-back Junior Grand Slam titles at the French Open and Wimbledon in 2013.
Making her US Open main draw debut in 2014, she reached the quarterfinals in her very first attempt. Further, the 24-year-old won the gold medal and a silver medal in singles and women’s doubles at the Tokyo Olympics.

Recently, Eastern Europe has been the center of geopolitical tensions. Bencic asked people to help the Ukrainians with whatever they could.
Belinda Bencic reveals an incident involving her family
The Swiss tennis star took to Instagram and posted a story that read, “Kind people helped my father and my grandparents when they had to leave their home in Slovakia in 1968. Now we need to help the people from Ukraine. Anything you can give will help someone.”
Subsequently, she also shared a story featuring Elina Svitolina’s message about the situation in her homeland. By doing so, Bencic showed solidarity with the Ukrainian tennis star.

Belinda Bencic’s 2022 season
The former World Number 4 has had a disappointing season thus far. She opened her campaign at the Sydney Tennis Classic. However, she lost in the quarterfinals to Paula Badosa of Spain. Further, in the Australian Open, she was shocked in the second round by Amanda Anisimova. The American dispatched the higher-ranked Bencic in straight sets 6-2, 7-5.
Her next tournaments panned out similarly, as she lost in the last eight in the St. Petersburg Ladies Trophy. Subsequently, she bowed out in the first round of the WTA 1000 Qatar TotalEnergies Open.
