The movie displays the remarkable journey of Richard, father of Venus and Serena Williams. While talking about the movie, the director of the movie, Reinaldo Marcus Green, gave an insight into the relationship the Williams sisters share.

King Richard director opens up on Venus and Serena Williams

‘King Richard’ has received appreciation, from fans and critics alike, across the world since its debut on the silver screen. In an interview, the director, Reinaldo Marcus Green, talked about the relationship between the Williams sisters. Green is famously known for his critically acclaimed 2018 film, Monsters and Men.

He remembered something that Venus Williams had said to him and stated, “Venus said something along the lines of, ‘Serena’s the kind of sister that would skip a match to see me practice.’ And that just hit home for me because I know how close I am with my own sibling. That’s not something you mess with. That’s real.”

From the succinct yet valuable description given by Green, it’s clear that the bond between Venus and Serena is incredibly close. The sisters have always looked completely comfortable in each other’s company, on and off the court.

Williams sisters’ Grand Slam titles together

Venus Williams and Serena Williams have achieved tremendous success together. In their professional careers so far, both of them have grabbed 14 Grand Slam doubles titles playing as teammates. Apart from that, they have also won the honorable gold medals at three different Olympics events – Sydney (2000), Beijing (2008), and London (2012).

At the ages of 40 and 41 respectively, Serena and Venus are still competing at the highest level in the sport. The 23-time Grand Slam winner, Serena Williams, will be competing at the Australian Open 2022.
