Everyone knows about Venus and Serena Williams because of the influence they have on the tennis realm. In a similar manner, tennis fans hail their father, Richard Williams for training them. However, other kids of Richard Williams have remained out of the spotlight and their life stories have been largely sidestepped for that of the legendary tennis duo Venus and Serena Williams. Sabrina Williams, his daughter from the first marriage, who lost her son last year is mourning the loss all alone.

Sabrina is currently living in a rural setting in America where she is trying to find peace after her devastating loss. However, she is doing it all alone without her family by her side.

Step-sister of Venus and Serena Williams mourns the loss of her son in isolation

The father of the iconic daughters, Richard Williams, is a revered coach. So much so that, an Academy Award-winning movie, King Richard, has been made on him with Will Smith portraying the role of the father of the legendary tennis duo. However, he also has a daughter who is all alone in rural Iowa at the moment mourning the loss of her son, Alphonse.

Sabrina Williams, Richard Williams’ daughter from the first marriage lost her son to suicide precisely one year ago.  In an interview with the Sun, she said, “It was Alphonse’s anniversary, and the only one to acknowledge it was my niece, who was connected to Alphonse, as they were both compassionate and empathetic.” 

Working in a country hospice she has taken a carefree approach toward others. As she looks back upon the loss of her son, she realizes no one is by her side, neither her father nor her step-sisters. She stated, “I know that people grieve in their own way, as I tell my patients, but I also know it’s not their issue, to them, it was just another day.” 

Richard Williams married his first wife in the 1960s and when his daughter Sabrina Williams was eight, he left them quoting that he was going to buy her a bicycle.

However, this equation is not true for all the half-sisters. Both Venus and Serena Williams still remember their half-sister Yetunde Price after her death.

Last year, the elder Williams posed with her nephew for a picture and he noted he had the same lazy eyes as his mother. Both the Williams sisters could not help but see her in him.

Serena Williams asked him to share that photo with her. Venus Williams called him his “Mama’s twin.” The loss of their half-sister hit Venus and Serena hard. However, whenever they think of her, they do it with love and compassion.
