Right from the start, Raducanu had an attacking mindset and kept finding corners to hit winners from both the wings. Leylah Fernandez not being able to bring out her A-game when it needed the most also aided the Brit as she captured an engaging first set, 6-4.

Having lost a break point in the second set, Fernandez was not able to bounce back and gave Raducanu an opportunity to serve for the title. Serving for the match at 5-3 in the second set, the British got herself injured while attempting to keep the ball in play.

Leylah Fernandez engaged in an argument over Emma Raducanu’s Medical Time-Out in US Open Finals

The injury happened as a result of Raducanu sliding on the court to reach for the ball. As Raducanu started to bleed, the umpire had to stop the game and gave a medical time-out of three minutes for the Brit.

It was at this moment where Leylah Fernandez was disturbed by the untimely interruption to an otherwise intense game. The Canadian had an argument with the match referee over the decision.

Later, when Raducanu served out the final game to clinch her maiden grand slam title, Leylah Fernandez was seen crying on her chair. Indeed, it was an unfortunate moment for the young Canadian star as she was leading the game at 40-30 before Raducanu’s injury interrupted the whole proceedings.
