Tennis is a game of margins. Momentum keeps shifting between two players and the one who manages to hold on to it emerges the winner. Right from the start, Raducanu had an attacking mindset and kept finding corners to hit winners from both the wings. Leylah Fernandez not being able to bring out her A-game when it needed the most also aided the Brit as she captured an engaging first set, 6-4.
Having lost a break point in the second set, Fernandez was not able to bounce back and gave Raducanu an opportunity to serve for the title. Serving for the match at 5-3 in the second set, the British got herself injured while attempting to keep the ball in play.

The injury happened as a result of Raducanu sliding on the court to reach for the ball. As Raducanu started to bleed, the umpire had to stop the game and gave a medical time-out of three minutes for the Brit.
It was at this moment where Leylah Fernandez was disturbed by the untimely interruption to an otherwise intense game. The Canadian had an argument with the match referee over the decision.
