Naomi Osaka and Cordae’s six-year relationship blossomed around their deep love for their daughter, Shai. She championed his music, while he was a constant, supportive presence courtside—even at the 2020 US Open. Their bond deepened with the birth of their daughter, Shai. She quickly became their universe, inspiring a reference in his song featuring Lil Wayne. That track includes a line about Lil Wayne buying a stroller for Cordae. The lingering question: Did he ever come through?

For the unversed, Osaka and Cordae welcomed their daughter, Shai, in July 2023 in Los Angeles. This exciting news came after her public pregnancy announcement in January. She shared a sonogram photo on Instagram to reveal the happy news. Later in November, Cordae released an album called The Crossroads last November. It features a track, “Back on the Road,” where Lil Wayne raps, “My n**** just had a daughter. I just went and bought her a stroller.” Now, six months later, Cordae revealed that Lil Wayne kept his promise!

On Wednesday, Cordae shared a video on his Instagram story. It showed the new “Fendi” stroller Lil Wayne gifted to Naomi Osaka’s daughter, Shai. He captioned it with lines from “Back on the Road” and thanked Wayne for the gesture. He wrote, “Appreciate you bradda @liltunechi No kap in the 🐐 raps.” What a nice gesture, right?

From the same album, Naomi Osaka had picked her favorite track! She posted the album cover on Instagram to support Cordae’s work and commented, “Absolutely.” Beyond being his partner, Osaka is a big fan of his music. The song “Don’t Walk Away” is about a man urging his partner not to leave. Naomi recently shared a screenshot of the song on her IG story, captioning it, “You guys are so sleep on this song and I hate that for you.”

However, they parted ways in January this year after nearly six years together. The news shocked many. Naomi shared the update on her Instagram story, stressing there was no “bad blood.” She expressed gratitude for their time and for Shai.

“Hi everyone, just wanted to say that Cordae and I are no longer in a relationship. No bad blood at all; he’s a great person and an awesome dad. Honestly really glad our paths crossed because my daughter is my biggest blessing and I was able to grow a lot from our experiences together,” Naomi Osaka wrote.

Naomi Osaka reveals that she’s the “stricter” parent between her and Cordae!

Last year at the Libema Open, Osaka got real when asked if she’s a strict mom or easy-going. She said, “Her dad spoils her a lot so I feel like I have no choice but to be a little stricter. But she’s so cute. I don’t feel like I do that well but yeah, wanting her to explore the world but also knowing that I’m here to protect her.” Talk about honest parenting vibes!

Naomi Osaka took a maternity break from tennis in 2023 but made a comeback in 2024. She’s shown glimpses of her best game, even if it’s a bit inconsistent. At last year’s French Open, she fought hard against Iga Swiatek, stretching the eventual champion to the limit. But this year, she won her first title as a mother at the WTA 125 L’Open 35 de Saint-Malo.

When asked if she wants Shai to follow in her tennis footsteps, Naomi kept it real. She shrugged off the idea since Shai isn’t even a year old yet. Plus, Osaka isn’t rushing to bring her daughter courtside just yet. “Oh yeah, she has watched my matches before but she watches on TV. I, uh, don’t really want to bring her on to site yet, maybe when she’s a little older,” she shared. So, no tennis stadium visits for Shai… at least not for now!

With the French Open coming up, the big question is, will one-year-old Shai be there to cheer on her mom at Roland Garros? And maybe this time, she’ll be cruising in that fancy new stroller Lil Wayne gifted! What do you think? Drop your thoughts in the comments below!
