Similar to the majority of sports, gender discrimination has also been a much talked about subject in tennis. While the debate was earlier restricted to the players, it has recently taken a new turn. In a situation demanding words from the experts, amongst the first ones to express her view is Martina Navratilova.

Known for her strong point of view, Navratilova often comes up with firm statements regarding the matters concerned. This time was no different. Taking to her Twitter handle, the 59-time Grand Slam champion recently expressed her views on why tennis still lacks women coaches.
Martina Navratilova comes out critical about gender discrimination in tennis coaching
As mentioned earlier, Navratilova is known for her strong opinions. While she used press conferences to express her views earlier, she clearly seems to have evolved with time. Ever since her retirement, Navratilova has been an active Twitter user. She uses her Twitter handle to express her views and opinions.
On August 13, Navratilova took to her Twitter handle, elaborating on why women still aren’t seen much in the role of coach as per her understanding. Giving a critical point of view, she wrote, “People still listen more to men than women. And ditto for fathers…”

The 65-year-old gave her opinion in response to a Twitter user who questioned Martina for her opinion on gender discrimination in tennis coaching. Tagging the former World No. 1, he wrote, “Two questions for you, Martina. Why are there so few female coaches on the tour? Why are there so many parents, usually dads, still involved at this level? Please and thank you.”

Navratilova details the gender disparity in sports in the United States
Last month in an interview, Navratilova spoke about the gender disparity in sports while recalling the time when she first came to the States. Walking down memory lane, Navratilova admitted that girls were deprived of equality with boys when she came to the USA. Going further, she also admitted that girls were chosen for cheerleading than actually playing the sport.

Supporting her words with an example, she said, “…different rules for basketball for girls and boys because girls couldn’t run that far. I was really surprised about that.”
