A 14-year-old girl from Compton made her debut by participating in the Bank of the West Classic in 1994. The popular WTA event was held in Oakland. Venus Williams, with her brilliant performance, knocked out the former NCAA singles champion, Shaun Stafford, in the first-round match of the tournament. However, despite her incredible performance, Williams was later defeated by the former Spanish tennis player, Arantxa Sánchez Vicario.

Williams didn’t let that defeat, during the WTA event, affect her tennis journey. As a result, she went on to win 7 singles Grand Slam titles during her more than two decades journey. Even, on the 28th anniversary of her pro debut, Williams was spotted practicing at the tennis court. The American entrepreneur, Alexis Ohanian, was also impressed with Williams’ dedication levels.
