‘Losing My Mom Was..’- 15 Years After Tragic Personal Loss, Serena Williams’ Husband Alexis Ohanian Consoles Dejected Women’s Soccer Fan With an Empathetic Message

In a heartfelt and touching moment on social media, Alexis Ohanian, co-founder of Reddit and husband of tennis legend Serena Williams, reached out to a grieving fan, Ashley Marie Lewis, in response to her own personal tragedy. Ohanian’s tweet not only showcased his empathy and compassion but also highlighted the power of human connection and finding solace in shared experiences.

This heartwarming exchange resonated deeply with fans across the globe, reminding us of the strength we find in the community during times of loss and grief. In 2005, Anke Ohanian, Alexis’ mother was diagnosed with an incurable brain tumor and passed away in March 2008 at the age of 54 in her Columbia, Maryland home. Her legacy as a caring individual and dedicated professional lives on.

In a powerful tweet, Alexis shared a vulnerable moment. He revealed that losing his mother had been a “defining moment” in his life. Ohanian’s tweet was a response to a tweet from actress Ashley Marie Lewis. In her tweet, the actress revealed how her mother succumbed to pneumonia. As a result of her mother’s pneumonia, Lewis had to abandon her plan of watching Ohanian’s Angel City FC in action.

To make matters worse for Lewis’ mom, her pneumonia resulted in multiple health complications. Lewis stated in her tweet how her family “almost lost” her mother. However, thankfully, Lewis’ mom survived the ordeal. As a result, the mother-daughter duo will finally be able to realize their plan of watching Ohanian’s women’s soccer team.

The Reddit co-founder’s tweet reflected the heartbreaking time that the tech entrepreneur and investor had to go through when his mother passed away. However, Ohanian concluded his tweet on a bright note. The tech tycoon expressed his happiness at knowing that Lewis’ mother had survived. He was also grateful to Lewis for turning her attention to Angel City FC after her harrowing experience.

This isn’t the first time Ohanian has tweeted about his late mother. A few weeks ago Ohanian shared a tweet about his mother on Mother’s day. In his heartfelt message, Ohanian expressed his belief that his mother would take pride in his venture capital firm, Seven Seven Six (776). He also revealed that she would have cherished the joy of being a grandmother to two children.

Last year, Ohanian had a vivid dream about his mother. He took to his Twitter account to narrate what he saw. “I had the most vivid dream of my last decade two nights ago. No clue why. But I saw my mom again. It was awesome. I almost never remember my dreams… and then BOOM,” Ohanian wrote.

Quite clearly, Ohanian still misses his mother. What’s more? He empathizes with people who have lost their mothers. It’s yet another example of the great character that Ohanian possesses.
