Serena Williams is considered one of this generation’s best tennis players for several reasons. Recently, while speaking to the press prior to the Wimbledon Championship, Williams spoke about how she has always been careful about her mental health.

Serena Williams’ take on mental health
Williams, in reference to the increased sensitivity around mental health because of advocation from players such as Naomi Osaka, spoke about how her journey with the same made her a stronger person.
She said, “I dont know I wouldn’t be who I am if I didn’t go through and get through and what I got through. And I love who I am and I wouldn’t trade it for anything. But there is often times that I think subconsciously I take breaks. I never played as much as the next player throughout my whole career.”

Thereafter, she added, “I think that was all subconscious me, taking care of myself and knowing how to take care of myself. A lot of people have to learn that and I think that was something that my parents built into me. Like it was already programmed in me. So it was just something that I naturally did.”

Naomi Osaka has addressed the importance of the same on several occasions. In fact, she walked out of the 2021 French Open and the following Wimbledon Championship in order to safeguard her mental peace. Other than her, Bianca Andreescu also took a break for months from professional tennis to heal mentally.
Who is Williams’ first opponent?
Serena Williams, who is making a comeback after almost a year, is going to lock horns with Harmony Tan. The French tennis professional has held the career highest ranking of World No.90 in singles. Further, the 24-year-old, unlike Williams, has been active throughout the year.

Further, this will be the first encounters between the former World No.1 and Tan. While Tan will look forward to a noteworthy run in the main draws, Williams will aim for her 8th title and pursue the record of 100 victories in Wimbledon.
