‘Loved Chicken and Acrobatics’ – Serena Williams Mourns the Loss of a Beloved Pet Ahead of Her US Open 2022 Campaign

As the US Open is inching closer, fans are eagerly waiting to see arguably the greatest tennis player, Serena Williams, for one last time. Moreover, Serena was also sweating it out on the practice courts, as she was pushing hard for her last dance. Meanwhile, she received some bad news ahead of her opening round match, as one of her dogs passed away.

Serena herself announced this news on social media as she posted a picture of her dog named Lauerlei Linkogle Williams.

Serena Williams lost her precious pet

Earlier, the 23-time Grand Slam champion took to Instagram and posted a picture of her dog, Lauerlei and in the caption she wrote, Lauerlei sadly took her last breath yesterday. I am sad but happy for all the time and all the extra I got to spend with her. She lived a long long life. The last year and a half was a bonus. She got to get anything she ever wanted and she was biting toes till the end.”

“She LOVED chicken and acrobatics. She was the smallest yet toughest little pup and I will miss her… so much. truly the end of an Era. Lauerlei Linkogle Williams… May 2004 – Aug 27, 2022, she further wrote.

As per her post, Lauerlei’s age was around 18 years, as she took her last breath on August 27. Notably, it was a Maltese dog breed. Serena also has two other dogs and one of them is a Yorkshire Terrier, which she named after Rafael Nadal. The full name of the dog is Christopher Chip Rafael Nadal; he also has his own Instagram account.

Meanwhile, the pair of Venus and Serena received a wildcard entry for the doubles category at the US Open this year. As Serena already announced her retirement, this will be the last time we will see them playing side by side in a tournament.

It is worth noting that Venus and Serena won 14 Grand Slam doubles titles together. Moreover, they are still unbeaten in the finals at the Wimbledon Championships, as they won six titles together. Also, they won 2 US Open titles. So, it will be interesting to see if they can win the title for the 3rd time.

Meanwhile, after the doubles announcement, fans are hoping to see Serena play in mixed doubles as well. We will just have to wait and watch if Serena decides to do that as well. On the other hand, she will start her singles campaign on the opening day against Danka Kovinic.
