19-year-old Leylah Fernandez has certainly achieved a lot at a young age. Not only was the Canadian star the US Open finalist in 2021, but she also has a WTA title already.

Now, with her rising popularity, brand endorsements were surely going to come knocking at her door, as they have. It’s official- Leylah Fernandez is now the face of Lululemon Athletica, one of the biggest athletic apparel retailers in North America.

In fact, this endorsement is even important to Fernandez on a personal level, going back to her childhood.

Leylah Fernandez will usher Lululemon into tennis

Lelyah had always wanted to wear clothes by Lululemon while growing up. Amazingly, she has seemed to manifest that wish into a reality, now that she will be leading the brand’s official push into tennis with her sponsorship.

Fernandez expressed how she “wanted to be original, different from the tennis players”.  Thus, in wanting to be her own person, she decided to sign with Lululemon, instead of the usual apparel giants.

Then, Lululemon decided to focus on tennis-centric apparel to begin their formal push into tennis. In order to do so, they were looking for a big name to sign with them, and Fernandez wanted to be it. “Lulelemon is the one for me,” she had told her agents.

Michelle Davies, the vice-president of Lululemon’s marketing and partnerships department, stated that Fernandez “holds a special place in our hearts”. For Lululemon, the partnership is about the values the brand and Leylah Fernandez share. Moreover, both parties look forward to what they create together, going forward.

For the apparel brand, “the timing of the stars did align”, as they wanted to sign only with athletes they shared their values with. Thus, Leylah Fernandez signing up with them came at exactly the right time.

Fernandez is Lululemon’s first global ambassador

Even though the brand already has somewhat of a presence in the sport, Fernandez is going to be their first global ambassador.

In fact, soon after the Australian Open, the brand will launch its first tennis-centric capsule collection with Fernandez. Stating how Leylah “is such an asset” to their brand, Davies described how the World No. 24 will be sporting their threads soon and provide valuable feedback for the same.

Similarly, as a perfectionist, Leylah hopes to “be a big impact” and “help in the designs”, going forward. Moreover, Fernandez wants to remain focused on tennis, and help change and tweak the apparel in ways that bolster her confidence on the court.

In the end, Fernandez joked how the Lululemon team will help her be more fashionable. “I don’t know how to match colors together,” she jokingly stated. “I see Lululemon as a power move for me,” Leylah Fernandez stated.
