The legendary career of Chris Evert is nothing short of an inspiration. The way she fought her way through the various challenges in her life makes her one of the strongest women sports has seen. The 67-year-old had lost her sister to Ovarian cancer in 2020. She hardly recovered from the loss as she herself tested to be suffering from the same disease.

Although Evert fought bravely, she recently recalled the horrors of going through the deadly disease and its treatment. Having seen her sister suffer, Evert recalled the time when she was also diagnosed with the same.

Chris Evert recalls the horrific time

In time detection of ovarian cancer turned out to be a lifesaver for the former tennis star. While it might look easy from a distance, the battle she fought with the disease along with her mental battle was truly extraordinary.

Recalling the time her sister Jeanne was suffering from the deadly disease, Evert said, “I thought a lot about Jeanne and it was scarier knowing what the journey ahead would be for me if I was stage four, more than the actual dying. I’d seen her with ports in her chest and needles in her arms and, after chemo, going through experimental drugs. They made her violently ill and she weighed 80lb when she passed.”

Further, she added, “To watch her go through that kept coming in spurts, like fear, those four days. Sometimes you just have to surrender if you can’t change it.”

Fighting all the demons in her head, Evert successfully completed her chemotherapy and defeated cancer. While the legend has inspired many with her game, her never give up attitude in personal life is an equally important lesson that she taught us.

Evert backs Coco Gauff after US Open exit

American tennis prodigy Coco Gauff had a great run in the US Open 2022. After reaching the finals of the French Open earlier this year, she was impressive in the US Open. However, the 18-year-old could not go past Frenchwoman Caroline Garcia in the quarterfinal. After the American’s quarterfinal loss, Evert offered her support to the teenage tennis star.

Taking to her Twitter account, Evert praised Gauff for her performance. Further, she said that the 18-year-old is moving in the right direction and is not too far away from her first major title.
