Aryna Sabalenka has let the cat out of the bag with her recent revelation about her preference for men’s tennis over women’s tennis. The 25-year-old Belarusian’s statement has caused debate among fans and pundits alike, with many doubting her reasoning for snubbing the women’s game. But this time her statement has definitely left tennis fans angry, and confused over the same.

Talks about gender equality and representation in sports are not new, but Sabalenka’s position has reopened the debate over how much more visible and respected women’s tennis is than men’s. Therefore, a raging debate has ensued over the Grand Slam champion’s contentious remarks and whether it was right or not.

Recently, during the Madrid Open pre-tournament conference, the Australian Open champion shared a statement that has created chaos. She stated, “I prefer to watch men’s tennis rather than women’s tennis, I feel that there is more logic and it is more interesting to see (laughs).” 

Listening to such a statement given out by the world no. 2, a lot of tennis fans shared their disappointment. A fan highlighted how the 25-year-old should have made up an answer for the benefit of the sport.

On the other hand, another fan was frustrated with her answer considering that the sport was on the “verge of bankruptcy” 

Subsequently, a Sabalenka fan got a bit too personal with their dig.

In addition, a fan mentioned how, at first, he thought that the 25-year-old was the perfect fit for the US Open title, but now, taking into consideration her contentious statement, he believed that Gauff won at the right time.

Lastly, a fan was literally baffled at how a woman could say such a thing when women’s tennis is fighting for equal prize money and finding ways to attract more eyeballs to the sport.

Not only that, she is one of the active tennis players, who has openly shared her stand against the WTA. Last year, the former world number one blamed the organization for their not-so-good WTA Finals management.

When Sabalenka spoke against the WTA

Sabalenka questioned the organization of the WTA Finals in Mexico, claiming that she felt “disrespected” by the Women’s Tennis Association. She claimed that she didn’t feel safe  while moving on the court after her opening-day triumph against Maria Sakkari.

She stated, “I have to say, though, that I am very disappointed with the WTA and the experience so far at the WTA Finals. As a player, I feel really disrespected by the WTA. I think most of us do. This is not the level of organization we expect for the finals.”
