Ons Jabeur recently secured a remarkable win over Jelena Ostapenko at the Madrid Open. The Tunisian, who was backed by her husband Karim Kamoun and coach Issam Jellali, experienced massive support from both of them, as they were barely seen holding on to their seats in silence. Amid the excitement of the winning side, it was Jelena Ostapenko who suffered, finally ending up lashing out at her opponent’s box.

The match between Jabeur and Ostapenko seemed to be moving toward the Tunisian’s side, right from the start. As soon as the 29-year-old started to dominate, the members in her box appeared to be full of enthusiasm, raising their voices to cheer for her. Feeling immense pressure and a lack of focus because of the noises, Ostapenko turned towards the box and lashed out at the ones who were screaming in support of her opponent.

Just a few hours after the match ended, Ons Jabeur decided to address the situation. “The truth is that everyone has a different personality on the court. Everyone knows Jelena. She always tells me that sometimes the demons in her head come to light in the middle of the game, so I understand her,” Jabeur said, explaining that she’s already aware of the fact that Ostapenko sometimes loses her cool on the court.

Along with that, she also forgave her opponent, saying that the ones she lashed out on can overcome that. “Maybe she said some bad words to them, but I think they can handle it, they are adults. It is what it is, it is something that is out of my control,” she added.

This not only highlighted her calm nature despite the argumentative situation but also justified the reason behind the consistent smile that she carries regardless of the situation.

Reflecting on the impressive stability, she said, “I’m very proud of having maintained my patience, because the level I was showing in training since Miami was impressive. I wasn’t missing a single training set, playing incredible, but in the games I was not good at it. I am very happy with my level, I do not feel that I am playing badly and winning ‘ugly’, I think.”

As the WTA star continues to move ahead on her run for the title in Madrid, she is set to face Madison Keys in the next round of the tournament.
