The red clay of Madrid simmers under the Spanish sun, but the heat emanating from Danielle Collins is a different kind of fire. Fresh off a dominant hardcourt swing, she’s arrived in the heartland of clay with a swagger that’s left fans and commentators alike buzzing. Dubbed as “Danimal”, Collins has defied expectations. Whispers of “Is she the best right now?” ripple through the stands.

The World No. 13’s recent strong victory at the Madrid Open versus Olga Danilovic, a Serbian qualifier, only fueled the flames. However, the Madrid Open match was not as easy as it looked. Collins persevered through a demanding two-hour and forty-three-minute second-round battle in her first red clay match of the season.

She rallied from a set, broke down behind, and beat her World No. 122 opponent in the end to extend her winning streak to 14 wins. Not only that, with this victory Collins claimed her 23rd tour-level victory of 2024, third-best on the WTA (trailing only Elena Rybakina and Iga Swiatek). Recently, when the WTA shared the news, fans were left stunned.

However, even after achieving victories on the court, the 30-year-old has refused to reconsider retirement and is still stuck with her initial retirement plan.
