Danielle Collins got off to a winning start in Madrid! She defeated Serbia’s Olga Danilovic by 4-6,6-4,7-6(8) in 2 hours 45 minutes to make her way into the next round of the tournament. In the next round, she will face the 25-year-old tennis player from Bucharest, Jaqueline Cristian. The Romanian has been in red-hot form this year on the clay courts. She has won eight of her ten clay court matches so far this season, including two Top 20 wins in Charleston. Can she topple the ultimate champion of Charleston at Madrid in her next match?

Well, both of them haven’t met each other earlier on the tour. Currently, the right-handed tennis player from Romania is placed at the 73rd spot in the women’s singles ranking. However, her career-best ranking came in January 2022 when she reached the 58th in the WTA single ranking. Jaqueline Cristian started playing tennis at the age of five. Former tennis player and coach from Spain, Javier Marti has played a crucial role in shaping up the raw talent of Cristian and bring in fruitful results in her career.

Cristian has won a total of 14 titles in ITF. Her best results for this year came at the Winners Open, where she reached the SF. She had also made it to the QF of the 2024 Charleston Open. But she was defeated by Daria Kasatkina in that match. However, she first came into the limelight during the Transylvania Open in 2021 due to her spooky outfit during her on-court appearance. Jaqueline Cristian was seen donning a long black cape with red details on the inside, resembling the dress quite similar to Dracula in Cluj-Napoca.

Jaqueline Cristian is committed to hard work just like Danielle Collins. She works extremely hard to keep herself fit all the time. It will be interesting to see if she can produce some more extraordinary results this year on the tour. Cristian’s favorite surface is clay. The 25-year-old Romanian tennis star gives full credit to Simona Halep for inspiring her to get into this sport. Can she follow in the footsteps of the two-time Grand Slam champion? Well, time will tell. But Halep’s journey on the bigger stages of the game has hugely inspired her over the years. During an interview with the WTA website, Cristian said, “She is the one who started to show us that it is possible.

She further went on to add, “That gives you confidence. She is a great player, and I always tried to learn something from her. It is really motivating that someone from Romania made it like that because it is hard.” Jaqueline Cristian currently has a win-loss record of 10-12 this season.
