Naomi Osaka has been one of the elite players on the tour in the past decade. However, her interest circle isn’t just restricted to tennis. The former World No.1 als0 has a major interest in business, culture, and communication with the masses. Recently, Osaka announced her own media company, Hana Kuma.

Being a prominent athlete herself, the 4-time Grand Slam champion is partnering with basketball legend, LeBron James. As per reports, the Small forward of the Los Angeles Lakers will be representing his sports entertainment firm, The SpringHill Company. Started in 2020 by LeBron James and sports-marketing businessman Maverick Carter, the SpringHill Company will be serving as the financing, operations, and producing partner in the partnership.

With their highly successful careers, Osaka and LeBron have undoubtedly been an inspiration to countless fans around the world. With the initiation of this platform, the two aim to inspire people by telling stories related to culture and social issues. The media platform is anticipated to produce documentaries as well as scripted and unscripted series.

Announcing the media company, Osaka said, “We’ll bring stories to life with this goal: to make unique perspectives feel universal and inspire people along the way”

Known for her social media presence, Osaka further announced the venture on her Instagram handle. Announcing the company, she recalled her journey as a professional.

“I’ve built my career taking a different approach than those around me and because my journey has been so different it’s opened my eyes to all the incredible stories out there that aren’t getting told. Stories that are global, about a variety of cultures and points of view, about important social issues…” she wrote while announcing Hana Kuma.

As per an American entertainment weekly, the firm has already bagged its first project. The media company is already on its way to producing a documentary on Patsy Mink, the first woman of color to be elected in the Hawaiian Congress.

Prior to Hana Kuma, in May, Osaka announced her own athlete management agency, called Evolve. Partnering with her long-time agent, Stuart Duguid, the agency has already gained massive popularity. Keeping up with its work, last week, the agency signed Australian star Nick Kyrgios as its first client.

While Osaka continues to shine on the business front, she is struggling to replicate the same success on the tennis court. After suffering a first-round loss at the French Open, Osaka recently announced her decision to pullout from the 2022 Wimbledon Championship due to an Achilles injury.
