Maria Sharapova Reveals What Helped Her to Navigate Her Tennis and Business Career

Who can forget the iconic Wimbledon 2004 where a young 17-year-old girl won her maiden Grand Slam title? She was none other than Maria Sharapova, and she made all the headlines. The former tennis player played some phenomenal tennis and reflected that she had a lot of confidence at such a young age.

In a recent interview, Maria Sharapova revealed how she managed to gain confidence at such a young age. She believes that some of her confidence came naturally to her, while she also had to learn some.

Sharapova said, “Starting my tennis career at such a young age, I was fortunate to have the opportunity to work with so many smart and powerful people.”

Sharapova highlighted that she started working with a lot of big brands at a very young age. She said that working with companies boosted her confidence. The former tennis star feels that it is this confidence that helps her even now in her business.

“From working with different brand partners to new agents and trainers, I definitely had to grow up quickly. I learned a lot from them, but I also learned how to be confident in myself in order to voice what I need and what I want,” added the former World No. 1 player.

Apart from talking about her own journey, Sharapova also advised other women on how they could develop confidence in themselves. She emphasized that it was important to know about oneself in order to cultivate confidence.

“We often find ourselves to be our own biggest critic, which is why I think it’s so important to know yourself and not doubt your own abilities. Much easier said than done (and something I still work on today!), but being decisive and having confidence in my decisions has really helped me navigate my career, especially now, as I explore new spaces like business and design,” concluded the 5-time Grand Slam champion.

Sharapova certainly believes that it is necessary to be decisive in life. She claimed that it was important to be one’s own critic in order to learn and explore more. She took her own example and remarked that it was because of this confidence that she was able to be successful both as a tennis player and as an entrepreneur.

It was quite a heartbreaking moment for fans when Sharapova decided to retire at the Australian Open 2020. However, fans still love her and often visit her candy shops.
