Martina Navratilova and Chris Evert React in Disbelief Over a Glaring Detail Regarding FIFA World Cup 2022

The 18-time singles Grand Slam champion, Martina Navratilova, has addressed a number of political and social issues that are prevalent all over the globe, using her social media accounts. Notably, the former Czech–American tennis player hasn’t shied away from weighing in on the controversies surrounding the FIFA World Cup in Qatar. A number of prominent figures have already taken a stand against the tournament after the controversies surrounding the deaths of migrant workers came out.

Notably, Navratilova has also expressed her shock at the number of migrant workers who died while working on projects connected to the event. She recently took to her social media after a shocking revelation about the deaths of migrant workers was made by the Qatar World Cup chief.

Martina Navratilova on controversies surrounding the FIFA World Cup in Qatar

The Qatar World Cup chief, Hassan Al-Thawadi, was recently featured in an interview with the renowned British broadcaster, Piers Morgan. During the interview, he talked about various controversies, including the deaths of migrant workers surrounding the tournament. Al-Thawadi made a shocking revelation by saying that around 400 and 500 migrant workers have died while working on FIFA World Cup Qatar-related projects.

However, the exact figure for the deaths of workers during the tournament-related projects was not revealed during the interview. Martina Navratilova, who has always used her online platform to address such issues, took note of the figures revealed by the World Cup chief.

Prior to that, Navratilova’s close friend Chris Evert weighed in on the matter. Evert was quite surprised when Al-Thawadi made this shocking revelation. As a result, she stated, “WHAT?????”

The former Czech–American tennis also commented on Evert’s post on social media. Navratilova expressed shock at the ‘exact’ number of migrant workers who died in FIFA World Cup-related projects. She stated, “I believe that is a low ball estimate…😱😱😱”.

Navratilova has also slammed Qatar for hosting the FIFA World Cup

The 59-time Grand Slam champion was quite surprised when a journalist opened up about being treated poorly by a security guard. The journalist in question, Grant Wahl, took to social media to reveal that he was asked to a delete picture of the World Cup slogan. He further expressed his disappointment over the incident when he was informed that clicking pictures was not allowed.

Navratilova, with an active online presence, took note of the incident involving the journalist and the security guard in Qatar. She slammed FIFA for granting rights to the country for hosting a big event like the FIFA World Cup.
