Martina Navratilova Displays Genuine Concern for Famous Author Salman Rushdie After a Horrific Stabbing Incident

Czechoslovakian-born American player Martina Navratilova is one of the most outspoken athletes on the planet right now. Often, she talks about various political matters, aside from tennis, by making the most of her social media accounts.

Recently, she talked about the unfortunate incident surrounding the Indian-born British-American novelist, Salman Rushdie, who earlier suffered a horrific stabbing incident in New York. The former tennis player Navratilova wished the author a speedy recovery.

Notably, the author, Rushdie, suffered a horribly stabbed earlier this week. Currently, he is on a ventilator and in critical condition. According to his agent, he could lose one of his eyes.

It is also worth noting that Navratilova herself wrote a few books and novels in her career. In 1985, Navratilova wrote her first autobiography called ‘Martina’. Apart from that, she also wrote a few more books, including ‘Killer Instinct’, ‘Breaking Point, and ‘The Total Zone’.

Is Navratilova the Goat?

Although Navratilova doesn’t have the most Grand Slam singles titles, she is still considered one of the greatest tennis players ever to play the sport. After Serena Williams‘ recent retirement announcement, there have been many debates regarding the greatest tennis players ever between Navratilova and Serena.

Recently, on ESPN’s First Take show, Jay Williams and Chris Russo had a fiery debate over this subject. In that debate, both of them brought up a few more good points about Navratilova playing in the better women’s era than Serena.

Moreover, Navratilova played against other legends of the sport as well, such as Chris Evert, Monica Seles, Billie Jean King, Steffi Graf, and many more.

In their respective careers, Navratilova won 18 Grand Slam singles titles and Serena has 23. Overall, Navratilova won 59 Major titles in her career, whereas Serena has won 39 titles.

When it comes to playing style, Navratilova was one of the best proponents of the serve and volley style. Contrastingly, Serena is more of a baseline player who utilizes her powerful groundstrokes and serves to her advantage.

Even though the debate will last forever, one cannot deny that they were the best in their respective era.
