In just a handful of days at the 2025 French Open, fans have seen and experienced it all. Be it the enthralling action on the court or the controversies off it, this edition of Roland Garros has been quite eventful. Moreover, former players and legends of the game have also not been spared and some of them are in the news for varied reasons. Martina Navratilova is among them and she was trending all over social media. However, she shut down the rumors surrounding her lookalike.
Earlier today, a fan shared a video of Navratilova’s look-alike posted by the Twitter account of Rock History. Thinking that it might be Navratilova, the fan wrote, “I really didn’t know Martina Navratilova loved country music this much or that she could sing! @Martina.” In the video, Navratilova’s look-alike can be seen singing and playing a guitar. The fan was left completely in awe, believing that it might be the tennis legend.
However, minutes later, Navratilova cleared the air on this viral video and dismissed the fact that she was the one in the clip. Taking to her official Twitter handle, she wrote, “No- not me. My nose is bigger and I don’t have as much hair:)” Despite the clarification issued by Navratilova, the fan found it tough to believe that it wasn’t the tennis legend. A playful banter ensued and the fan replied, “I ain’t buyin’ it. It’s you for sure! Not just a magnificent tennis player, incredible songstress too.”

However, this isn’t the only reason why Navratilova is in the news of late. Earlier this week, while discussing the legacy of Rafael Nadal at the French Open, she overlooked Novak Djokovic and was widely criticized by his fans. Navratilova mentioned, “For almost two decades, it has been Rafael Nadal against the field. Now everybody thinks they have a chance to win because Rafa’s not there. Even though he hasn’t been playing, it’s a massive, massive hole that nobody can fill.” Thus, Djokovic’s fans felt angered by the snub and the subject became a talking point in the tennis circle.
Further, there have also been talks about Navratilova’s look-alike in terms of playing style. While she played an aggressive brand of tennis, today’s generation is totally devoid of that style of play.

More often than not, Navratilova used to play a serve-and-volley type of game. With this, she often outsmarted her opponents in no time, winning several big titles. However, when seen in today’s generation, there is hardly any player who has adopted the style of play of Navratilova.

Did Martina Navratilova unfairly snub Novak Djokovic while praising Rafael Nadal's legacy at the French Open?
Have an interesting take?
Talking about this, former WTA player Kimiko Date-Krumm said back in 2011, “Martina Navratilova had the serve and volley and the touch for net play but now when you look at the young players, their styles are all the same. It’s only power, big serve, and then bam, bam, bam – no tactics. Before, it was mainly defensive styles. Martina (Navratilova) had her lefty serve-and-volley game; Steffi Graf had a superb backhand slice and big forehand; Gabriela Sabatini had more spin; Arantxa Sanchez did also—she ran very fast and was mentally tough. Martina Hingis had a lot of talent; she’s not a big player, not a lot of muscle and her tennis was all about touch.”

Further, she went on to add, “For Asian players today, she’s a good model. She didn’t have the power but she was very smart. Back then most players had a good serve but they were still very different. Now they are all almost identical.”
Meanwhile, Navratilova is closely following the action at the French Open. While she dismissed the fact that it was her in the video, the clip continues to go viral, with fans finding it tough to separate out the two.
