‘Maybe the Last Period’ – Simona Halep Narrates Distressing Phase Before Joining Serena Williams’ Coach Patrick Mouratoglou’s Academy

Simona Halep has been one of the most consistent players in the WTA circuit for quite some time. But in 2021, she sustained an injury, which made her rethink all her future plans. The former French Open and the Wimbledon winner said that she was even close to considering retirement after the injury made her miss 4 long months of the tour.
She was afraid that she was done and that he will never regain her best form again. But recently she opened up about how she has found her passion for tennis back. She also spoke about what helped her in returning to the tour.

Simona Halep says Mouratoglou’s Academy helped her
Speaking with Tennis Major’s show, Major Talk, she said how she managed to get her motivation back on track. She owes a lot of it to Patrick Mouratoglou’s academy. Patrick Mouratoglou has been one of the most well-known coaches in the tennis fraternity. Most famously he has coached Serena Williams and is in Stefanos Tsitsipas’s coaching team too.

Halep visited his academy in the south of France and said that it was an inspiring experience to see so many youngsters fight and give it their all to be at the top. Hiring him as coach was a major step in getting her love for the game back on track.

“I thought at 30 I would be done and I was close to be done this year,” Halep said. “Actually last year, as well, after the injury I had. At the beginning of the year (2022) I was a little bit better but still not very confident so I thought it may be the last period that I can play tennis.”

“But then I discovered this academy… I discovered something, the fire is back in my inside for tennis. Seeing the kids here doing everything possible to be at the top, I have it back. I needed that, to see in other people, in other kids, and I have it back,” she added.

Halep is back on the Tour
Simona Halep in her best form is one of the best things to see in a tennis match. Now that she seems to have gotten her motivation back, with the right guidance, she will only move forward.
Halep is set to take part in the Mutua Madrid Open and will be facing China’s Zhang Shuai in the Round-of-64 match today.
