King Richard, a movie that chronicles the early life and the struggle of the Williams sisters – Venus and Serena and how their father Richard Williams nurture their talents, is about to release on theatres on the 19th of this month.

The movie had travelled across several film festivals and garnered the much-deserved love and attention of not just movie buffs but also of tennis fans across the world that were inspired by the story of Venus and Serena Williams.

Ahead of its release, the Williams sisters along with Will Smith(who plays Richard Williams) talked about what the film meant to each and everyone of them and how it tried to portray the early Williams’ household.

Venus Williams, who came into the limelight ahead of Serena, was instrumental in shaping up her sister’s formative tennis years as both of them would go on to become reigning queens of women’s tennis.

Venus Williams talks about King Richard and what it tries to depict

Not just individual success, the Williams sisters also had won 14 grand slam titles in doubles and three Olympic Gold medals. The elder sister talked about what she liked in the movie on her father.

I love that it captured the innocence, the innocence we still hang on to, actually. It’s kind of difficult for me to say, ‘Oh, this film shows me.’ Because me is Serena. And there’s no me without her, and I could have never done what I’ve been able to achieve on the court without her. It’s so symbiotic”, told Venus.

The movie not just focuses on Richard Williams along with the sisters but from the rushes, it looks like the focus will also be on Oracene Price, mother of Serena and Venus.

King Richard was supposed to be released last year but got delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The movie that depicts the life of two of the greatest champions the sport has ever seen, might become an inspiring tale for upcoming athletes who want to make it big  in the field of tennis or any other sport for that matter.
