In a recent interview, she detailed her take on handling the attention she gets.

Coco Gauff on her unwavering focus

Gauff expressed how she is immune to fans’ counterarguments and said, “I don’t really care about the praise or the backlash.”

Thereafter, she added, “Obviously, there was some backlash. People are like: ‘Oh, what’s one message going to change anything?’ And I mean, I understand me writing on the camera isn’t going to change or stop gun violence from happening.”

“But it’s all about getting the message out there and getting to the people in office who have the actual power to change this.” Gauff is just 18 years old. However, her statements are calculated. She believes in doing a thorough analysis of the matter before forming an opinion and uttering her thoughts in public.

The backlash Gauff recently faced

The teenager who entered the elite list of WTA and made her debut in the Grand Slam finals faced heat for her subpar performance at Wimbledon. Gauff riding high on fans’ hope and her French Open finals form entered the grass swing. However, she failed to live up to the expectations.

Seeing her make a semi-finals run in the Berlin-based grass event, people believed she would avenge her clay majors’ defeat by winning the Wimbledon championships. But Gauff packed her bags in the third round. She, in the three-set long match against compatriot Amanda Anisimova, incurred a 7-6 (4) 2-6 1-6 defeat.

As a response to this, people flooded her social media accounts with hate comments. A heartbroken Gauff later shared an array of texts filled with abuse. Showing a champion’s mindset, she bounced back putting all ill comments to sleep.
