Venus Williams‘ love for American Football is well known. The legendary tennis player and proud owner of the Miami Dolphins has been spotted several times in the stadium during NFL matches. A few days ago, she met San Francisco 49ers legend, Steve Young in Las Vegas for a wonderful celebration and game to promote awareness. Williams also recalled the time when she first met this football legend almost three decades ago.
They both are champions in their field and recently they visited Durango High School in Nevada during the Super Bowl weekend to coach teams of high school girls playing flag football. Venus Williams donned a no.45 football jersey for the “45 Yard Line” event hosted by Dove which aimed to build confidence and a champion mentality among the young girls. The two legendary athletes met each other just two days before the Kansas City Chiefs defeated Young’s former team at the Super Bowl LVIII. Venus Williams not only revealed her admiration for the San Francisco 49ers legendary quarterback but also portrayed her inner competitive spirit.

Venus Williams recently gave an interview with Sports Illustrated. During the interview, she said, “I was a huge Steve Young fan. I remember when I met him when I was in my teens. I was so excited.” But shortly after recalling her fond memories with him in the past, Venu Williams’ competitive side took over her as she revealed, “I also told him my team is winning. Big fan, but you’re losing today. It’s competitive.“

Her admiration for the sport and its legends is often portrayed through her reactions. She had even expressed her same delight when NFL legend Tom Brady reversed his retirement decision a few years ago. According to multiple reports, Venus Williams and her sister Serena Williams were the first Black women to become minority investors in an NFL team.

Venus Williams and Serena Williams bought a minority stake in the Miami Dolphins in 2009. Here’s what she had said after this historic purchase. “I am honored to be a partner in the Miami Dolphins franchise. And thankful to owner Stephen Ross for allowing Serena and I to be part of Miami Dolphins history. To have this opportunity is really where our heart is. We’re South Florida girls. When we get off the road, this is where we come home to. When we come home to Dolphins games, it’s going to be exciting,” Venus Williams.

She also spoke about the game itself, “My love of football has really grown. I’ve really gotten really attached to the sport. I think football players are the ultimate athletes.
