Now that she is playing her farewell season, a tennis fan page on Twitter recently brought to light the 30-year-old player’s goal to participate in the Summer Olympics. The fan page also said, “If she were to win the title here, she would pass Keys in the Olympic Race, which goes through Roland Garros.” Now that her compatriots Madison Keys and Emma Navarro have faced a round of 16 defeat in Miami, Collins has a great opportunity to secure a place on America’s tennis team for this season’s Summer Olympics.

However, it won’t be an easy task for Collins, as a big challenge now awaits the unseeded player in the semifinal round of this outdoor hardcourt tournament.

Entering the WTA 1000 event as an unseeded participant, the American tennis player brushed aside the likes of Bernarda Pera and Anastasia Potapova in the initial round matches. Collins then overcame Elina Avanesyan in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2, in the round of 32. The 30-year-old later defeated the 19th seed, Sorana Cîrstea, with a score of 6-3, 6-2, as she secured a place in the quarterfinals.

Collins has now pulled off another upset against her 23rd-seeded French opponent, Caroline Garcia, in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2. The WTA player, who is currently outside the top 50 rankings, will now have to lock horns with the 14th-seeded Russian, Ekaterina Alexandrova, for a place in the championship game of the Miami Open. Collins is now two victories away from glory at the Hard Rock Stadium, as she might also secure a place on America’s tennis team for this season’s Summer Olympics.
