Miami Open: Elena Rybakina Encounters Brutal Draw With WTA Big-Hitters Lined Up in Projected Path

After two weeks of endless action, we have our two champions from the Indian Wells Masters. Tennis fans are already looking forward to the second half of the Sunshine Doubles. The defending champion, Elena Rybakina, is hoping for a better show than the BNP Paribas Open, as she couldn’t manage to compete in the tournament to defend her title. 

Now, the player from Kazakhstan is looking to improve her run in the sport and redeem her absence from the Indian Wells. Her path in Miami has been revealed as she is set to be one of the top contenders of the tournament.

Elena Rybakina’s path in the Miami Open revealed

Rybakina won the 2023 Indian Wells Masters and reached the tournament with high hopes, but had to withdraw from the tournament due to injury. In her stead, Iga Swiatek won the tournament, repeating her feat from the 2022 version. While absent from Indian Wells, Rybakina is set to play in the Miami Open, and her stint will begin on 22nd March.

Another player who will return to Indian Wells is Simona Halep, who is returning to the sport after her doping debacle. While these two players will be gracing the Miami Open with their presence, several players, including Novak Djokovic, have announced their withdrawal from the second Sunshine Doubles competition.

Players who will be absent from the 2024 Miami Open

Novak Djokovic, who lost in round three of the Indian Wells, announced that he has to withdraw from the Miami Open due to his personal and professional schedule. Rafael Nadal also stated that he will withdraw from the championship as he suffered an injury in the Netflix Slam and is hoping to recover in time for the clay swing. Stan Wawrinka also shared that he would not be playing in the tournament due to reasons unknown.

Joining them are Belinda Bencic, who has been absent since 2023, Karolina Muchova, who is aiming to recover from a wrist injury she encountered in the US Open, and Nick Kyrgios, who has not shared any plans on returning to professional tennis anytime soon.
