Now that she is into her second round, Pegula will be facing Leylah Fernandez. Asked about whether she and Fernandez are maybe not playing in their best forms, Pegula answered, “I wouldn’t say we’re right this second maybe today playing the best tennis, of out careers.”
Talking about the potential of an electrifying upcoming match with her opponent, she said, “ But I think we are capable of that, and I think that is always really dangerous for someone like both of us, who have a lot of experience in those situations. We know our level can be very high we know how to work through matches.”

Although they have practiced together, Pegula has never played Fernandez on-court! “I can’t believe I’ve never really played her. It’s been crazy. I mean, we have practiced with her a few times, but honestly, not that recently,” Pegula said with much surprise.

However, she did not forget to mention how tough that might be, given how talented Fernandez is. “So obviously, she is a great competitor and a great athlete. And I knew I am going to have to go out there and beat her on that day, and she is not going to be easy. So it’s going to be a tough match,” Pegula added.
