A few weeks ago, she ended her 5-year coaching partnership with David Witt to join hands with Mark Knowles and Mark Merklein. Has Pegula ever faced any trouble having two coaches on the same team instead of one?

In a recent interview with Tennis Channel, Pegula spoke about the changes in her coaching team and the questions it has invited. Reflecting on how she feels about these recent additions, Pegula is grateful for the changing trends in tennis.

“It’s become more common now” – Jessica Pegula on having two coaches on the same team

During the interview, she said it’s a little bit different, but she has been enjoying it. Has she ever faced any trouble? She replied, “Honestly not much. I like that it’s kind of an open kind of collaborative type of thing. I like that. There are multiple people trying to problem solve, multiple people that can say, want the same thing. But maybe one of them says it a little bit differently. And I for whatever reason kind of you know, respond to that mindset of problem-solving.” Will it be a successful strategy? Only time will tell.

She further went on to add, “I feel like it’s become more common now, having maybe multiple people and looking to advice for certain.” Jessica Pegula feels that this makes her feel like she is not stuck with one person and one idea all the time.

David Witt said that this split had come as a complete surprise for him. However, Pegula believed that it was the right time for her to make a transition. She didn’t want to be just a part of a process but wanted to love the process as well. At the same time, she’s grateful to David Witt for all his teachings.

“I’m very appreciative of everything” – Pegula on her former coach

Jessica Pegula recently spoke about her coaching team by thanking Witt, “Obviously, I’m very appreciative of everything David and I accomplished, which was amazing. I wouldn’t change that for anything. I’m excited about the challenge of doing something different.” She is currently looking to make some fine-tunings in her game and has already spent a week in February with Knowles in Dallas.

Speaking on her interaction with the new coaching team, she said it wasn’t all strictly about tennis. Neither Knowles nor Merklein have any previous experience of working with the women’s side of tennis. So in their first interaction, they tried to know each other and figure out how they would work.
