The 2024 Miami Open is set to pit some of the greatest stars of the WTA against each other. As the round of 64 comes into the fray, Danielle Collins and Anastasia Potapova will play against each other, hoping to get a deeper run in the second half of the Sunshine Double. Both could use a win, however, the player who is in form will most likely be the victor.

Collins is desperately hoping to have a better run in Miami. She has managed to reach the semifinal of the tournament once and is looking to recreate it again as this will be her final stint in Miami.

Danielle Collins vs Anastasia Potapova: Preview

Collins began her 2024 season in the Brisbane International, where she lost to Zhu Lin in the second round. She would then lose in the first round of the Hobart International, which would be followed by a second-round exit to Iga Swiatek in the Australian Open. Abu Dhabi would fare better for her as she managed to attain three wins before he lost to Elena Rybakina. Qatar would be even better, as she qualified for the quarterfinal stage.

She withdrew from Dubai, then played till the quarterfinal of the Austin Open, and then lost to Swiatek again in the Indian Wells Masters in round 2. In Miami, Collins managed to breadstick Bernarda Pera twice after losing the first set.

Potapova also began 2024 in Brisbane, where she withdrew during the quarterfinal. She skipped over the Adelaide International and then had a first-round exit in the Australian Open against Kaja Juvan. In the following Linz Open, she was eliminated after the first two rounds and then in the second round in Qatar, losing to Karolina Pliskova.

She would then exit Dubai in the quarterfinal as she lost to Qinwen Zheng. She found herself in the quarterfinal of the Indian Wells Masters, where she lost to Marta Kostyuk.  

Collins vs Potapova: Head-to-Head

Collins and Potapova have not played against each other on the WTA Tour yet. The audience in the stands will be treated to a new clash as both players will aim to overcome each other in the Sunshine Double. New strategies will be implemented, which will make the clash a sight to see for all. Both players will aim to demolish the other, but only one can succeed.

Prediction: Collins to be the victor over Potapova

Collins, an American star on her way to retirement, has a much better chance of advancing in the tournament. As she prepares to make 2024 her final year, her outstanding performance at the beginning of the year demonstrates her commitment and competence. She wants to end her career on a strong note, leaving an indelible mark on the sport and in Miami.
