We’re living in the digital age. As more and more things go digital, how people tell stories and how they perceive them are bound to keep changing. In fact, these aspects of storytelling are already changing rapidly. According to tennis legend Serena Williams‘ husband Alexis Ohanian, the change was set in motion several years ago as face filters came to the fore. The tech investor and entrepreneur recently took to Twitter and through a series of tweets, he explained why he thinks digital avatars will transform storytelling forever.
Ohanian’s last tweet reflected why he, along with Jennifer Aniston, invested big in an animation studio around 9 months back. The tweet also revealed that the investment has finally yielded exactly what Ohanian was aiming for.

Serena Williams’ husband Alexis Ohanian delves deep into the impact of digital avatars on storytelling
Most of Ohanian’s tweets tend to be crisp and concise. However, on this occasion, Ohanian chose to go into great detail regarding his belief that digital avatars will turn storytelling on its head. Ohanian listed three reasons for believing so.
Ohanian said that the first reason is, “they empower maximum creativity”. The next reason, according to Ohanian, is that “they can always be “on.”” Last but not least, Ohanian said that, “we’re already halfway there”. He went on to say, “Millions of people use face filters every day on TikTok, digitally altering their appearance to have more fun and interact more dynamically with audiences.”
Ohanian’s last tweet featured none other than Hollywood superstar Jennifer Aniston. Around 9 months ago, Ohanian-led investments raised $12 million for Invisible Universe, an Animation studio.

Ohanian’s investment aimed to facilitate the creation of a digital character based on Clyde, Aniston’s real-life dog.
In his last tweet, Ohanian wrote, “These reasons (and more!) are why we invest in companies like @InvisibleUniv – they’re creating the building blocks for the next generation of fully digital creators.”

The animation studio previously designed an animated franchise based on Qai Qai, Williams and Ohanian’s treasured doll. It proved to be quite a success and the studio enhanced its reputation. Following Qai Qai’s resounding success, Invisible Universe teamed up with Jennifer Aniston to develop the character of Clydeo. The character drew inspiration from Aniston’s pet dog Clyde.
