Months After Ending Their 10-Year-Partnership, Serena Williams’ Ex- Coach Patrick Mouratoglou Reveals True ‘Barriers’ for Her Comeback – ‘A Little Bit Obsessive..’

The French tennis coach, Patrick Mouratoglou, has helped some of the best players to reach unprecedented heights on the WTA tour. The list of such female tennis stars also includes the American tennis legend, Serena Williams who previously moved away from the court after the US Open. After that, she has been occupied with a slew of extracurricular activities. Recently, Mouratoglou shared his thoughts about the tennis legend.
The 23-time singles Grand Slam champion, however, hasn’t closed the door to further appearances on the WTA tour. But her former coach believes that it is her extra-curricular interests that are acting as a barrier to a potential return on the court.

The renowned WTA circuit coach was recently featured in an interview where he talked about his 10-year association with Serena Williams. Patrick Mouratoglou also pointed out at the American tennis legend’s potential comeback for tournaments on the WTA tour. The former world No 1 tennis player has previously announced her decision to play her farewell match in the Grand Slam event in New York.
The French tennis coach revealed that he would be happy if Williams continued playing on the tour. Mouratoglou added that the whole tennis community also wants to see Williams play. However, Williams has previously announced that she will be shifting her focus to other areas including her entrepreneurial projects.

Notably, her former coach hinted that such extra-curricular interests might be going to be a barrier to Williams’ return to the court. Mouratoglou stated, “I think to be exceptional at something, and God knows she’s been exceptional, you have to be a little bit obsessive about it. You have to be 100% focused on the activity, otherwise even for tennis geniuses, it’s complicated.”
Mouratoglou also talked about Williams’ legacy
During the interview, the French tennis coach also talked about the American tennis icon’s legacy in the sporting realm. Mouratoglou said that he doesn’t believe that Williams’ decision to move away from the court will affect her legacy. The WTA circuit coach further said that Williams’ happiness at the end of her tennis journey will matter the most.

Mouratoglou added that nobody will remember the end of the 23-time singles Grand Slam champion’s stellar journey. He also believes that the tennis community will always remember what a champion she was, because of her achievements on the court.
