Coco Gauff is one of the best current-generation tennis stars. The 18 years old had a dream run in this year’s Roland Garros. In her nascent career, she achieved the remarkable feat of reaching the finals of Roland Garros in both singles and women’s doubles categories.

Although playing in her first major final. The American suffered a thrashing defeat at the hands of work number 1 Iga Swiatek. The 21 years old was dominant throughout the game and never let Gauff come back. Winning the match 6-1,6-3.

After the finals, Gauff took to her Twitter account to share her thoughts on the tournament and thank her fans for their constant support. Her compatriot and fellow tennis star Sloane Stephens was quick to react to her post.

Notably, Sloane herself did really well in the clay-court Grand Slam. Currently ranked 64th in WTA rankings, the American marched to the quarterfinals of the French Open after defeating Jil Teichmann of Switzerland.

However, playing in the quarterfinal, she lost to Gauff and bowed out of the tournament. After her exit from the tournament, the 29 years old was supporting her compatriot in the finals. Sharing the tweet posted by Coco Gauff after her defeat in the finals, the American wrote,

“Proud of you!!!!!! More to come”

It is nice to see the camaraderie between two different generation American players.

Gauff is very early in her career and, with the kind of promise she has shown, she will only move upward in days to come.

Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula lose in the Women’s doubles final

After suffering a defeat in the final of the singles category, Gauff was hopeful of winning the women’s doubles with her partner Jessica Pegula. However, the 18 years old was not destined to take a trophy back from Paris this year. As they lost the doubles final too.

Playing against the 2016 Women’s doubles champions Caroline Garcia and Kristina Mladenovic, the American duo lost the opening set 2-0. However, they made a comeback to win the second set 6-3. But the former champions were clinical in the decider set and clinched the title for the second time.

Although the 18 years old failed to take a trophy home this time, she surely has marked her presence in the Grand Slam and will definitely be a title contender next time around.
