Ashleigh Barty wins the Australian Open 2022 Women’s singles finals. She beat 27th seed Danielle Collins to take home the Daphne Akhurst Memorial Cup. Winning the title, she also becomes the first Australian since Chris O’Neil in 1978 to win the Australian Open. 

Winning the Australian Open, Ashleigh Barty is one of the most trending topics on Twitter right now. While the whole world is talking about the Australian’s win, it is her fellow WTA players that have taken the limelight.

Fellow players congratulate Ashleigh Barty for her win

Victoria Azarenka is a Belarusian former world number 1. She congratulated Barty saying, “There is just no better tennis player at the moment than Ashleigh Barty. Most complete and focused! The way she is able to put pieces together and add a bit more to her game is absolutely admirable! What an example! Congrats champ to you and all your team.”

Former world number 6, Carla Suarez Navarro. She took to her Twitter congratulating Barty for her win.

39 Grand Slam title holder and former world number 1 Billie Jean King took to her Twitter saying, “World No. 1 Ash Barty has just become the 1st Australian to win an Australian Open singles title since Chris O’Neil’s win in 1978. What a special day for Australia! Congratulations, Ashleigh Barty.”

Donna Vekic is a Croatian tennis player having 3 titles to her name. She congratulated Barty saying, “Goosebumps for Ashleigh Barty…so well deserved!!”

Former world number 7 Ons Jabeur congratulated Ashleigh saying, “Congrats Ashleigh Barty…so happy for you champ. This one is very special and you really deserve it.”

Barty’s final steps to the Australian Open 2022 title

World No. 1 Barty entered the final as the home favorite as well as the top contender for the trophy. Breaking early in the first set, Barty went on to seal the first set with complete ease.

The second set saw Collins take a 5-1 lead in the second set. However, the world number 1 was in no mood to take the match to a decider. Elevating her game, the Australian made a comeback in the set, winning the set 7-6.

With a combination of heavy serves and powerful groundstrokes, Ashleigh Barty took 1 hour 27 minutes to win the title 6-3, 7-6.
