25-year-old British player Katie Boulter caused a massive upset today, as she knocked out the no.6 seed Karolina Pliskova in the second round at the Wimbledon Championships 2022. Understandably, the crowd was behind the home player, as she played one of the best matches of her career to reach the third round.

After the match, Boulter became quite emotional, as she revealed a heartbreaking personal revelation.

During the post-match interview, Boulter thanked the fans for their support throughout the match. Then, she revealed a heartbreaking story about the passing of her family member. My gran passed away two days ago. I’d just like to dedicate that to her today,” Boulter said. After hearing her story, the Centre Court crowd gave her a massive round of applause, which made Boulter quite emotional.

Along with that, Boulter also reached the third round of a Grand Slam tournament for the first time in her career. Speaking about that, she said, “Honestly, it’s a dream come true for me. I’ve got hopefully many more matches to play. If I can have you guys behind me for those, hopefully I can go a long way. So thank you so much.”

In today’s match, Boulter lost the first set, 6-3. However, she made a splendid comeback in the second set to win it in a tie-break. During this tie-break, the crowd’s support helped her a lot, which continued in the third set. In the end, the British player won the third set 6-4 to eliminate last year’s finalist Pliskova. The match lasted almost two hours and the final score was, 3-6, 7-6(4), 6-4 in favor of the Brit.

In the next round, Boulter will face the French player Harmony Tan, who shocked the world by beating Serena Williams in the first round.

Karolina Pliskova continues to have a poor year

Meanwhile, the Czech player Karolina Pliskova is enduring a tough season so far. After a great end to 2021, Pliskova started the 2022 season poorly. Earlier, she missed the Australian Open due to injury. Although she returned to the tour at Indian Wells, she did not get her previous year’s form back.
