‘My Heart Won’t Stop Bleeding’- Elina Svitolina Pledges to Donate Prize Money Amid Global Tension

The world’s attention is on the Russia-Ukraine tension at the moment and many are wishing to have peace at the earliest. Sporting personalities belonging to Ukraine, who are staying outside of the country at the moment, have been supporting their fellow countrymen and trying their best to help them in every possible way. Tennis star Elina Svitolina falls into the same category as she shared a message of support on Instagram.

Elina Svitolina wrote a heartfelt letter

Elina, who currently resides in London after her recent marriage with Monfils, wrote, “I am currently far away from you, out of sight from my loved ones, far from my people, but my heart has never felt so warm and filled of your soul. It is difficult to express how special you are. To me you are strong, beautiful, and unique.”

The former world no. 3 further wrote, “My people, every day I fear for you, I am devastated. My eyes won’t stop crying, my heart won’t stop bleeding.” It’s evident from Svitolina’s message that she is immensely proud of her country and people and the courage they are showing at the moment.

Svitolina pledges to donate her upcoming prize money to support the Army and humanitarians to help them in defending the Ukrainian people. She further asks the world to see the situation and help people by joining forces to protect them. You are in my thoughts and prayers. You are always with me. I am Ukraine. We are Ukraine,” concluded Svitolina.

The Ukrainian tennis star is currently in Monterrey to play the WTA 250 event that begins next week. Other tennis stars such as Leylah Fernandez, Madison Keys, and Ajla Tomljanovic are all set to enter the tournament alongside Svitolina. It’s a great initiative from Elina Svitolina to contribute the prize money for her country as the conflict continues between Ukraine and Russia.
