The Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian and his wife Serena Williams recently celebrated their five-year anniversary. However, in a recent interview, the spotlight was on the fact that a father’s contribution to a child’s upbringing is important from Day 1 and not abruptly from anywhere in between. He focused on how working fathers need to change this perspective. For this, he gave the example of his family and portrayed it as a startup.

And this, he mentioned with a laugh, would bring flak from his wife. This is because Williams does not like family to be compared to a business setup. Nonetheless, the message is worth it!

The Reddit co-founder is a huge proponent of the contribution of working fathers in the initial stages of the life of their children. He feels if a father is absent in the earlier stages of a child’s development; it disrupts the mechanism. Although developing bonds in the latter stages is also crucial, he feels that it should start from the time the kids are young. In an interview, he gave an example by comparing his family to a startup and said, “My wife would hate me for describing it this way, but we think of our family like a startup.” 

The entrepreneur in Ohanian could not stop himself from expressing his views in pure business terms. However, he did that. And what he meant by that it is better to be a CEO who has worked with startups since day one than someone who comes to reap the rewards at the end. And he left a message for working fathers with a question. He said, “Well, what kind of CEO do you want to be, sir?”

He also detailed how his father took only a day’s leave when he was born. And though he could not blame his father or anyone else’s father, he wants to make the change.
