Well, strange things happen at Flushing Meadows. Earlier today, Naomi Osaka completed a thrilling win over Daria Kasatkina to enter the fourth round of the US Open. It was a surreal performance from the Japanese star, who looked like she was finally back to her best after months of struggle on the court. With this win, Osaka set up a clash against the third seed, Coco Gauff. Ahead of that blockbuster encounter, Osaka issued an apology to her team for a strange reason.
During the post-match interview after her win over Kasatkina, Osaka said, “It’s been a really long journey. Um, but I’m glad to be here now. Honestly, that wasn’t really in my mind while I was playing. I’m so sorry to my team. I feel like I gave you guys attitude. Like for sure I was giving like the shadiest looks. I’m so sorry. Uh I feel like I turned into a different person when I’m playing. So um sorry you guys. I feel like I was also like screaming a lot.”
Following the Wimbledon Championships, Osaka made a strong comeback and reached the finals of the Canadian Open. She has carried that form into the US Open and is looking like a force to reckon with in the women’s draw. With her team behind her, it won’t be a surprise to see Osaka dig deep in the US Open.

Meanwhile, Osaka will take on Coco Gauff next in their first match in six years at the US Open. They faced off against each other at the 2019 US Open, with Osaka winning that match comfortably in straight sets. However, things could be different this time around, with Gauff having the upper hand.

He said, “I have never seen more focus from Naomi Osaka. Every point. She was up 6-3, 5-1, and was still super intense. She almost had that Rafa [Nadal] point-to-point mentality. She went to the desk afterwards with Chris McKendry and Sloane [Stephens] and was very matter-of-fact. Naomi rarely overshares in those types of interviews, but was just saying that the only thing I am really concerned about right now is intensity, and it showed. She is playing great.”
Osaka will face Gauff tomorrow in what promises to be a blockbuster encounter. Who do you think will progress through in this match? Let us know your views in the comments below.
