Tennis star or a skyjumper, what Naomi Osaka is up to? Regarded as one of the best tennis players in the world, the Japanese superstar is in a happy mood ahead of the start of the 2025 season. Currently playing at the Auckland Open, the former world number 1 pulled off an unexpected stunt. The reason behind it? Pop singer Beyonce.
Naomi Osaka is making the most of her time in Auckland. The 27-year-old tennis star shared an exciting update on December 26, showing off her adventurous side. She posted a story on social media featuring herself, coach Patrick Mouratoglou, hitting partner Matias Zukas, and her team sailing on a yacht. But Osaka was not done with her adventures just yet. She decided to try something even more daring, visiting Auckland’s famous SkyTower for an adrenaline-filled SkyJump.
The Sky Tower, standing 328 meters tall, is a major landmark in Auckland. It offers stunning views of the city and is a hotspot for thrill-seekers because of its SkyJump experience. This 192-meter jump from the observation deck lets visitors freefall while securely harnessed. Osaka shared her experience with her followers and wrote, “Doing all the side quests out there.”

Osaka revealed what inspired her to take the leap. She said, “I saw Beyoncé do it a couple of years ago, so in my head, um, I’m actually really scared of heights, but in my head, I was thinking since Beyoncé did it, it would be very safe for me to do it as well. Um, and also, I feel like it’s such a landmark that you kind of have to do it. Not saying that people are forced to do it, but, um, definitely one of those once-in-a-lifetime type of opportunities.” Beyonce, during a world tour in 2013, famously jumped off the Sky Tower.

Osaka is not the only tennis player to have enjoyed this experience. Coco Gauff also tried the SkyJump during her visit to Auckland last year. Gauff shared her story on Instagram, captioning it, “Jumping into the new year 🎊 #2024.” She then went on to win the ASB Classic, starting her season with a bang.
Coming back to Osaka, while her jump was nothing short of sensational, she drew a relationship analogy from it. But how?
