It is the end of the road for Naomi Osaka at the 2025 French Open. After some decent performances of late, the Japanese star couldn’t withstand the challenge of Paula Badosa, as she went down fighting in three sets 6-7 (1), 6-1, 6-4. A four-time Grand Slam champion, Osaka’s struggles on clay continued as she bowed out in the opening stages yet again. Despite putting on a good fight against Badosa, Osaka faced the wrath of the fans after her loss.
During the match, Osaka got a nail-cutter and had her Sakura-themed nails clipped after winning the first set. However, fans weren’t happy after Osaka lost her match, as they felt that Osaka was prioritizing her on-court looks above her performances. Although Osaka, ranked No. 49, was an underdog in the contest against the 10th-ranked Badosa, she got off to a good start and took the first set in the tiebreaker. Subsequently, Badosa got into the groove as the match progressed and began dominating Osaka from the second set. The momentum continued in the third set as Badosa overpowered her Japanese opponent.
Meanwhile, Osaka has had a tough time with injuries and her absence from the tour due to personal reasons. After winning four major titles, it has been a steep downfall for her, and some fans even demanded that Osaka retire from tennis.

Fans slam Naomi Osaka after a disappointing loss
Ever since garnering the attention of the tennis world due to her on-court exploits, Osaka has used the stage to display her fashion sense. As a result, she has drawn comparisons with Serena Williams. However, a fan felt that there was a stark contrast between the two. The fan wrote, “I guess Nike wants Naomi Osaka to fill the Serena Williams role with all of these fashion statements. The big difference is that Serena Williams was able to stick around throughout most of the fortnight so we could at least get a good look at them.” Although Osaka gained recognition by defeating Serena Williams, she hasn’t been able to consistently perform at the top level like the American legend.
Meanwhile, another fan felt that Osaka should call time on her career. Having seen enough of Osaka’s struggles, the fan revealed, “It’s been a great ride but Naomi Osaka needs to hang it up from here. It’s only getting worse.” Indeed, Osaka looks past her best, and it has been long time since she last won a big title.

Further, a group of fans slammed Osaka for mixing fashion and sport. Irritated by Osaka’s constant fashion statements during her matches, a Twitter user called her out, saying, “She heard Paris and thought she was coming for fashion show. She could actually lose this match because of silly decisions.” Although fashion and Paris go hand-in-hand, the fan felt that Osaka wasn’t fully focused on the French Open.

Interestingly, during the match against Badosa, Osaka had many moments in which she could have turned the game in her favor. However, she wasted those opportunities, and an angry fan wrote, “Wow Naomi Osaka you gave that match away so many times. My goodness the collapse continues. This is so frustrating as a fan.” This is the string of early losses that Osaka has had in recent times, adding to the fans’ frustration. Lastly, some fans even slammed Osaka with sarcastic remarks. “Supporting Naomi Osaka will be the end of me one day,” a fan wrote, who was disappointed by the outcome of Osaka’s match.
Osaka’s next big assignment would be at the Wimbledon Championships. Going by her recent form and past results at the grass-court Grand Slam tournament, it is unlikely that her fans could get respite anytime soon.
