Naomi Osaka is not just known for her high-powered game; also for her off-court activities. The former World No. 1 has often been heard talking about her love for anime and animated video games. Recently, taking her love for video games to the next step, Osaka announced her collaboration with Fortnite. Consequently, she revealed her avatar in the game on Instagram.

The former world No. 1 celebrated the collaboration with utmost excitement. However, little did she know, something more was coming her way. The 4-time Grand Slam champion yesterday, 4th February, received a pair of custom-made shoes from her apparel sponsor Nike. What made the shoes so special for Naomi? They were inspired by her look in Fortnite and were the same shoes worn by her avatar in the game.

Osaka reveals her new Nike shoes

Since yesterday, Osaka has uploaded a number of posts related to her collaboration with Fortnite. However, one story that caught everyone’s attention was her story about her new Nike shoes. Rejoiced by the new shoes, Osaka took to her Instagram, uploading a story. In the story, Osaka showed her Fortnite-inspired Nike shoes. She captioned the story, “Nike sportswear made me an exact replica of the shoe my character is wearing.”

However, only uploading Instagram stories wasn’t enough for the 24-year-old. Thrilled by the collaboration, Osaka also uploaded an Instagram post. The post was a collection of photos of Naomi Osaka with her sister Mari Osaka. In the photos, the two sisters posed in front of a huge banner displaying Naomi Osaka’s collaboration with Fortnite. The poster had Osaka in both her skins (Court Queen and Dark Priestess), coupled with a text that read ‘NAOMI OSAKA x FORTNITE’. However, even in these photos, Osaka opted for her new Nike shoes.

Ending her 2021 season just after her 3rd round 2021 US Open loss, Naomi Osaka made a comeback in 2022. Being out of the game for four months, Osaka started her 2022 season at the WTA 250 Melbourne Summer Set 1. Due to her strong game, Osaka cruised through the first three rounds but had to withdraw before her semifinal match because of an abdominal injury.

Recovering from the injury, Naomi Osaka entered the Australian Open as the 13th seed. Eyeing her 3rd title in Melbourne Park, Osaka had a comfortable win in the first two rounds. However, failing to stand against the high-powered shots of Amanda Anisimova, Osaka suffered a 3rd round loss in three sets.
